A Contradictory Life

Three things about light in darkness and mornings

The sun’s rays do not burn until brought to a focus. - Alexander Graham Bell

Mornings are rushed for most. I know they are for me. Normally I am awake long before the sun even rises so this morning I relished the sun shimmering through my curtains as I opened my eyes and then enjoyed sipping my herbal tea slowly. It had already cooled since Wes had left it on my bedside table when he left for work and was refreshingly different.

Different is good.

I have been tired and my body has been aching. I needed these few extra moments to just stare at the sunlight, to be blinded by it.

I am glad I had these peaceful minutes to myself this morning before my day was somewhat disrupted by news from a check up I had. It is probably nothing, I do tend to overreact, at first, but I do not welcome things where they should not be.

I will concentrate on the light though. I always try to. So, I will

  1. Feel – I will allow myself to overreact and cry a little. Sometimes we just need an excuse for a good cry, whatever that might be. I will feel sad, confused and worried even though it is probably not necessary. I need to feel all of the emotions. Whether they are related to this or not.
  2. Get outside  – I will sit outside and breathe in fresh air whilst studying this long weekend. I will not stay cooped up inside. I will listen to the birds sing and the kids play whilst I work in natural light.
  3. Move and nourish – I will move my body. When I am stressed or worried I tend to eat slabs of chocolate and bags of chips and skip gym and sit and wallow on the couch. I will do at least fifteen minutes of yoga a day and will go mountain biking even though I feel weak. I will drink berry smoothies and snack on carrots, chick peas and rosa tomatoes. But, if I feel like chocolate, I will have it. I will listen to my body and respond appropriately.

All of this applies always I suppose but sometimes life makes me more aware of my body and that is never a bad thing.

Listen to this and read the lyrics below. Say “Good morning world!” every day and savour moments of peace and hope.

Morning has broken, like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for them springing fresh from the Word

Sweet the rain’s new fall, sunlit from heaven
Like the first dewfall, on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness where His feet pass

Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning
Born of the one light, Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God’s recreation of the new day

Morning has broken like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for them springing fresh from the Word
